Get to Know Your Periodontist in Plattsburgh
March 12, 2018
We’re so glad you decided to stop by our blog! In future posts, we’ll deliver all sorts of fascinating information that relates to your oral health, all with the goal of helping you enjoy the benefits of a healthy smile. For now, though, we thought you might like to get a little better acquainted with your periodontist in Plattsburgh and the services we offer. Here are some quick facts about our practice.
Our Periodontist, Dr. Gordon Davis
Dr. Gordon Davis, the intrepid doctor who leads our team, is a member of the American Dental Association, the New York Dental Association, and the Academy of Periodontology. We know that “periodontology” is a fancy word that sounds impressive, but what exactly does it mean?
Periodontology is another word for periodontics — that is, the area of dentistry that focuses on gum health. In order to become a periodontist, a dentist has to undergo three extra years of training after dental school. This extra study time equips them to prevent, diagnose, and treat the issues that affect the gums. Periodontists are so important because it is estimated that about half of the people in the United States have some form of gum disease.
Our Services
We focus primarily on periodontal treatment. If you have gum disease, we may suggest one of the following services for you:
- Scaling and root planing. This is an in-depth cleaning of the mouth that removes infectious bacteria and helps your gums to heal.
- Periodontal maintenance. After you’ve won the battle against periodontitis (the advanced form of gum disease that comes after gingivitis), it’s important that you’re diligent about making sure your symptoms don’t return. We can help with that!
- Gum and soft tissue grafting. This surgery is necessary for some patients who are suffering from advanced periodontitis.
If you don’t have gum disease, we still may be able to help you! Other services we offer include:
- Dental implants. These are widely considered to be the best form of tooth replacement that modern dentistry has to offer. Dr. Davis is capable of seeing you through the entire implant process, from preliminary work like bone grafts, to implant placement and beyond.
- Crown lengthening. Sometimes also called gum contouring, this service removes excess gum tissue that makes the teeth look too small. Dr. Davis uses advanced laser technology to give your smile the beautiful, proportionate look you’ve always wanted.
- Oral cancer screening. It’s recommended that adults get screened for oral cancer at least once a year. The screening process is quick, simple, and painless.
